TWLOHA = To Write Love On Her Arms.
How many of you are hurting? How many of you feel lost? How many of you are overwhelmed by the brokenness of the world in which we live? How many of you know someone who has succumbed to the pain and suffering of this world?
The incredible people behind TWLOHA understand the immensity of each of these questions. A non-profit “movement,” TWLOHA directly invests in the treatment & recovery efforts for individuals struggling with depression, addiction, self-injury and suicide. However, perhaps even more impressive is the fact that TWLOHA has dared to bring these difficult issues to the public forefront, to force individuals to recognize the pain and suffering of others, to show us all that it’s OK to be broken…but most importantly, to offer the greatest gift: HOPE.
This first time I read TWLOHA’s vision statement the hairs on the back of my neck stood on end—in a good way.
The vision is that we actually believe these things…You were created to love and be loved. You were meant to live life in relationship with other people, to know and be known. You need to know that your story is important and that you’re part of a bigger story. You need to know that your life matters.
We live in a difficult world, a broken world. My friend Byron is very smart – he says that life is hard for most people most of the time. We believe that everyone can relate to pain, that all of us live with questions, and all of us get stuck in moments. You need to know that you’re not alone in the places you feel stuck.
this is only the beginning…finish reading TWLOHA’s vision here.
One might say TWLOHA unofficially began four years ago by Jamie Tworkowski and a group of his friends. They did not set out to start an international non-profit or garner praise from celebrities and national leaders (though both have since happened), they set out to save a life…they set out to save a friend.
The story that began TWLOHA is one of the most beautiful things I can ever remember reading…it is pain and suffering, courage and hope, faith and love. Read Renee’s story and may it be as powerful for you as it has been for me every single time I’ve read it.
